Today I was proud to march in the Fountain Valley Labor Day Parade to honor the American labor movement and the people who have contributed to one of the largest labor forces. I also had the privilege to support and to celebrate with local Unions of the Pikes Peak Region in their Labor Day Festival. These are reminders of the work and organization that trade unionists made to recognize the importance of labor and how it was the backbone of what our country was built on.
According to the Economic Policy Institute, from 1978-2022 top executives’ compensation has skyrocketed up 1,209% compared to only 15.3% for typical workers’ compensation. This has led to the diminishing middle class and an unsustainable economy for a majority of American residents. That’s why when I’m in Congress I will not stop until we can build an opportunity economy where everyone has the ability to not only get by but to excel.
Support the Pro Act in Congress – This would amend previous labor laws to restore the right of workers to freely organize and form a union
Support Public Sector Unions – Government and public job unions can help employees and their families fight for better pay and benefits while increasing quality of public services
Promote Employee Ownerships – Proven benefits for this are higher wages and net worth, better benefits and reducing outsourcing with higher productivity and faster growth
Expand Workers’ Rights – Work at a local, state and federal level to have paid leave, paid sick days for all workers and increase protections in education and healthcare
